Neighbouring pairs can swap.

How many swaps to sort them?

We used counters to investigate.

Officially Amazing!

Sorry that I haven't done a blog post for a while, but so much has been happening.
For two nights, I went to the African Spirit Game Lodge, and I've seen loads of amazing things.
Here's what happened when I went there.
Within 5 minutes of arriving, we came across a mother cheetah with her cubs, which was amazing. But what was even more amazing, was that the mother had just chased and cornered an injured nyala, and was about to have it for her dinner. Here's a photo.

The next day, we woke up really early, so that we could go on our game drive. We left the lodge at 6:30. Although the weather was sunny, it felt quite cold as we rode along in the open top game vehicle, because it is actually the middle of winter in South Africa.
The game drive
We saw 20 giraffes, including a baby :), warthogs, impala, nyala, and even some lions!

We stopped in the middle of the bush and had a drink and some biscuits. I found some animal poo. Can you guess which animal it comes from?
Can you guess which animal made this poo?
We went on another game drive in the afternoon, where we saw rhinoceros and elephants, plus lots more giraffe, warthogs and buck. We tried to drive back along a dried up river bed, but got stuck behind the herd of elephants. They went really slowly and would not hurry up. It got dark and it became quite freaky, because you would never know if something would leap at you from behind, like a leopard, or a pack of lions.

It was when we were driving back to the lodge in the dark, when Mum spotted the caracal.
Our ranger said that they can jump as high as a tree, and they catch birds out of the air.
I found it really beautiful and awesome.

Hello from South Africa!

Hi everyone!
I am really REALLY missing you. I can`t stop thinking about you!!!
I've been having a really good time. But we've done lots of flying and driving.
Sunday night, I slept at a friends house. Her name is Simmi.
She has two dogs called Sam and Max, and she's also got two cats called James and Misty. Simmi is seven and she's got two big brothers (Tyler and Michael) and a big sister (Sherae).
Right now I'm at my Grandma's house. On Monday, me and Hayley made mud pies in the garden. I made a camera and Hayley made a family of chameleons. I am going to have lots of fun with my Grandma.
I wish you were here with me. :(/:) Well, look out for my next blog post! Bye!

Our Trip to Lac St Ferréol

We had a great day canoeing, acrobranching, orienteering and trying our hand at archery on our Year 4 sports trip.  Although the weather was pretty windy, it was a lovely warm day and we had a fantastic time.

Here is some proof of, for many of us, our new found skills.

The Blind Man and the Hunter Prints

Following on from the story 'The Blind Man and the Hunter' we have explored in art how the blind man might visualize the world.
We etched our images onto printing foam, and using light block print coloures we then printed these onto black card. The black represents the darkness of being blind.
The results were very impressive and you can somehow imagine how coloures and images would appear in the blind man’s mind.
Here's a slideshow of our work:

Burst at laugh with this story

This storry tells why I was not at school wednesday 10.6.2015 were I must !

One day my mum bought the incorrect fly tickets. The flight was for Wednesday not for  tuesday. and my mum was saying that it was for Tuesday. When we were getting our bording pass the women said ``are you sure that your flight is with Iberia?´´ (Iberia was the company that we went) we said yes then she gave us a doubtful look, then she said `` errm your flight is for tomorrow´´ then my mum looked at us with a surprised look.Ater a second me and my brother shoutet YES ONE DAY MORE WITH OUR FAMILLY (cause we were with our familly) BUT  we did not have a phone it was locked so we got a taxi BUT we did not have enough money (coins not bills) but we could pay with card so we were rescued by this taxi driver

So, thats why I was not at school at wednesday 10.6.2015

The Image Collector

We have been reading the story 'The Blind Man and the Hunter' which is a tale from West Africa.
It is in this book of stories:
We wore a blindfold to explore what it might be like to not be able to see. We found it hard and a bit scary to trust only our ears and partner to help us move around the room.  You can see us in these photos...

We also read the poem 'The Sound Collector' by Roger McGough.

Click here to see and hear the poem by Roger McGough

We then used his poem to help us to create a similar poem which we have called 'The Image Collector'.  Here it is:

Cooking with my Dad

On Saturday I cooked with my dad. We looked through the cook book my mum wrote and the cook book I got for my birthday. We chose the meal from my mum's cook book and the dessert from my cook book. The meal was pasta carbonara and the dessert was profiteroles. We made two things at the same time!

The finished product was good. This is the carbonara ...
and these are the profiteroles

Cuisenaire rod equations

We've been using letters instead of numbers. All thee Cuisenaire rods have different letter names:

So, looking at some good examples from Annie, seven lots of g is the same length as seven lots of r plus seven lots of w. Or in letters:
7g = 7r + 7w

The two lines are the same length, so the two rows of rods are equal.

We made our own pairs of lines of rods.

Later on 4G tried a pair of squares like this.
4B built on top of theirs like this.

And we even tried cubes!

Here is James P's cube and the algebra to go with it:

Have a look at a slideshow of our work.
