Drawing cuboids... and frogs

In 4G we drew cuboid on triangle dotty paper today again. Then we worked out their volume. We're getting quite good at this.

We also made "frogs" from cubes. Here it is drawn online.

(This was quite hard to draw on the dotty triangle paper, but lots of us managed. It was easier to draw the front view, top view and side view:

We've been looking at shapes made up of cubes this week. Here's a little of what 4G have been doing.

We've been drawing shapes we've made on triangle paper, then imagining some more. And we've made some six-cube shapes in red, yellow and blue too.

 

We used this drawing tool to do the same kind of thing online (but this time it gave us other views too.)

It works!

At the weekend Justus was thinking about polydron shapes. There was one he wasn't sure fitted with Euler's formula. So we had to make it and check:

F  + V  -  E = 2

31 +26 - 55 = 2

It works!

3D shapes

This week we have been investigating 3D shapes.  

We have tested Euler's formula of 

Faces + Vertices - Edges = 2 

and found it worked!

The formula is written as:   F+V-E = 2

We then made some polyhedra (polyhedrons) of our own.  These are 3D shapes that have only straight edges and flat faces.

We then checked that Euler's formula worked for our polyhedra.  You'll be pleased to hear it did!
