Hundred Faces and Haiku Poems

Justus started it off. When he'd finished his maths task, in a spare moment, he made a face.
Again, after our work with DST, we had a little spare time: so we made some more. This time Mr Gregg made a rule: each face must cover one hundred squares, must have an area of one hundred.

Today we wrote some haiku poems to go with our faces.

Autumn Trees Haiku 2

Here are our finished haiku, placed on our wonderful ink blown trees.  Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as we enjoyed creating them.

Haiku trees: Part 1

Here we are creating our ink trees to accompany our haiku.  We were very good at ensuring that we blew the ink... not sucked it!

Here are some more pictures

Watch this space for our finished work...

Tree with haiku

Thank you Anabel for showing us how the red seal stamp works.

Views of Mount Fuji

Six men together,
carrying food and water...
Long journey behind.

Rod
4B have already written some great haiku poems about Hokusai's 36 views of Mount Fuji. Here are 4G's:

Quiet windy day,
Birds curling tightly: it's cold!
Calm volcano stays.

Cat haiku poems

We had a look at this video of Mr Gregg's new cat, Tziggy:

Here are some of our first drafts of haiku poems about Tziggy:

Wabi Sabi : Our Autumn Haiku 2

4G went on a haiku-walk to look at some of the trees.
Wet lavender dripping,
Lime trees with bugs crawling up,
But leaves falling down.

Marie
Big round olive tree,
Small cylinders all around:
Delicious olives!

Rod

Bugs trot on rough leaves;
Nights longer and days shorter
Soft, rough and dry leaves.

Gracia

Bumpy, rough and dry,
Spiky grass in the cold wind.
Lazy branches fall.

Annie

Purple lavender
Very old and bumpy trunk
Japanese maple

Anabel

A red bug's running
Up and around on a log:
Japanese maples.

Gabrielle
Spiky balls hanging
On a thin branch of maple
With colourful leaves.

Rose

Wind making leaves blow,
Flowers turn to seeds in June,
Leaves turned into tea.

Holly

Wind blowing, leaves fall,
Spiky balls hang on branches,
With colourful leaves.

Noah

The lime trees as hard as
Steel; A nest with plenty of
Good food for nature.

James

Sometimes green or red
Bugs coloured orange, red and black,
Go down the grey stem.

Justus and Samyak
(We'd read the book Wabi Sabi together, and this helped us with the feel of the haiku poems.)

Wabi Sabi : Our Autumn Haiku

First we went on a Wabi Sabi walk outside.  Here are some of the everyday beautiful things we found:

We then created some haiku about 'Changes in Autumn':

Autumn leaves

Stones in the Autumn

Change colour with moss and dirt

Wet green, yellow, brown

By Lucia and Chloe

Autumn Is Here

Rain, rain, I love rain

It’s so cool, ants are walking

Rain oh rain, oh yeah!

By Vanisha

As rain drips off leaves

The pond’s ripples dent the sky

And the fish shimmer

By Angiolina

Green leaves turning brown

Flowers start growing outside

Moss grows over trees

By Glyn

Patterns in the stone

Some designs are split in half

Round, oval, smooth, sharp

By Imogen

When Autumn is here!

In Autumn moss grows

Small plants get wet in the rain

Then the sun comes out

By Macy

Insects in wet grass

Crawling to their damp dark nest

Grass changing colour.

By James

Stem looks like a worm

Old brown, yellow and pale green

Feels like a snail shell

By Javier

I’m the nature Queen

Leaves fading from the cool sky

It makes me feel good

By Kayla

Raindrops fall from leaves

Drip smoothly into puddles

Small ripples are made

By Leonie

AUTUMN STARTS

Lines on the ferns stay

Plants veins I easily see

Colours fading fast
By Shriya

Yellow green mixes
A single yellow flower
Some thin yellow lines.
By Sebastian

Stem looks like a worm
Bright yellow and pale green
Like a snail’s shell
By Sebastian

Water reflections
Wonderful old olive tree
I can see you there
By Sofia

Green leaves rotting soon
The leaves fall off the tree now
Autumn is coming
By Thomas
