Find the area

Using Cuisenaire rods, make 5 rectangles, which between them have side lengths 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. What area do they each cover? What total area do they cover?

We used the Cuisenaire environment to record our rectangles.

And then calculated the total area:

Mr Gregg went to the shop to buy a football. But while he was there he saw some trainers that were reduced. The new price was about 60% of the original price. So he bought them.

Hundred Faces and Haiku Poems

Justus started it off. When he'd finished his maths task, in a spare moment, he made a face.

Again, after our work with DST, we had a little spare time: so we made some more. This time Mr Gregg made a rule: each face must cover one hundred squares, must have an area of one hundred.

Today we wrote some haiku poems to go with our faces.

Making GeoGebra stars

Our Christmas artwork in 4B is also about The Snow Queen and it needed some stars. So we used GeoGebra to create a star mosaic. Here is our work so far.

Decorations with DST

This afteernoon 4G worked with our neighbours in DST. We needed to find a common language in pairs: English, French, Spanish or German. Together we made Christmas decorations. And then we ate cake! Thanks to all the families that made cake for the occasion!
