Polar bears

The polar bear is a white bear that weights from 350 to 700 kg, it lives in cold temperature - Arctic circle.

The polar bears are in vulnerable species because some people are hunting them.

They are in danger as well because climate change produce melting polar so the ice sparred out and the bears can´t hunt seals and fishes . If polar bears can´t hunt the seals, they can´t feed the little bears with mother milk.

If they can't jump from one place to another, they can also drown because of the climate change.

On the other hand, some fishes have chemical products that poison the polar bears. That fishes get the poison because the humans through chemical products into the water.

The polar bear could become extinct in 75 years!!!!
What can we do???

Snow Day walk

Well done to everyone who's posted Snow Day posts! I went for a walk in the forest yesterday. I love how the world is transformed when it's snowed.

ASIAN ELEPHANT - STATUS: Endangered

Here are some facts -

  • Largest mammal that lives on land
  • Intelligent animals
  • Found in Asian countries - India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Malay and Sumatra
  • Weighs around 5 tonnes but eats only grass, leaves, twigs and berries.
  • An adult elephant eats 136 kg of food in a day.

Endangered!
We do not have any data about the number of elephants a few 100 years back. But what we do know for a fact is that the Mughal Emperor Jahangir (17th century) had 113,000 captive elephants in his empire. Today, WWF states the total number of Asian elephants are between 20,000-25,000 worldwide. The map shows the distribution of the elephants in Asia (before and now).

Why are they being endangered?
  • Killed for their tusks and skin which fetch huge money.
  • Their living habitats are used for human development like houses, road, buildings, etc and so the elephants die for want of food or get killed when they strand to villages or towns for food.
Why saving them matters?
  • The world is not just for people. It is as much for the animals as it is for us.
  • Saving elephants is like saving forests. (Remember, they eat 136 kg of grass and twigs a day from many trees)
  • Saving forests in turn means saving all the animal species that live there.

I LOVE SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On Tuesday I woke up to find that it was snowing!

In the morning i went to meet Marie at the patisserie and we built a snow-man but Marie's brothers destroyed it ;( .
When Marie left  me and my brother made giant snow-balls and stood on them.

After that we had to go home so I made one at home.
I also made a Snow Snack!
The recipe is easy, it's just :
snow + a cold drink (not milk)

Endangered snow leopard

This is a snow leopard cub >

About the snow leopard...
  •  Snow leopards have evolved to live in the hardest conditions on earth
  •  A snow leopard's fur completely camouflages her from her habitat in the snowy mountains of central Asia

They are endangered because...

  • In Asian culture they think that medicine made from bones and other parts of felines will cure human illnesses
  • A snow leopard's fur is wanted for decoration

Family snowball fight

The whole garden was covered with a  blanket of snow.
We made some lovely footprints in the fresh snow.
We were having lots of fun and we were having a snowball fight.
We made bases and I was with Claudia against Eric and Natalie.
 We thought this was fair.
But I did change a bit.
 We also made a snowman.
We made a warm fire when we got back inside and had lovely pancakes for supper.
I really enjoyed this snow day.

The Snow Queen 's Appearance

"I , the Snow- Queen declare:

I was way too fed up with rain, sun and wind,

So I decided to make it snow , when I was  just about to melt, I told my self: Hey, I'm the Snow-Queen, I can  do what ever I want with snow.

So I made it snow all over France,

When I flew over a little house , I saw the prettiest garden in France!"

When I saw all this snow I was shocked! Me and my brother played "SNOWBALL FIGHT!" and I made a snow man; I named him Frilly.

Maybe next year there will be even more snow!

This has been the best snow day of my life , so far.

P.S if the  real Snow -Queen  visits you, throw her hot coffee.

In the snowy forest

With my  Dad we went in the forest next to our house. I was a little bit scared because there was cows so I did not know if they were nice or not nice  but they did not see us in their field.
In the forest there was a lot of water but I had a stick  so that we could not get stuck in the water mixed with mud. The trees were full of snow I really really liked the trees with the snow on it.

My adventure in the snow

This is my back garden with snow on the trees and my treehouse.
This is me and my snowman but it was not finished.

My first day with snow in Toulouse

When I woke up it wasn´t snowing but after 20 minutes it began to snow. When we were going to school my dad drove the car while the tyres were slippery, so we decided to wait at home.
Look what happened in my house in 3 hours. The garden was full of snow and we started to make snowmen.

First Snow of 2015

Today I was all ready and about to leave when my mom found out that the school was not open so I did not go.  At 10 o'clock, I went outside and I made a snowman.  When I went outside I saw my friend Sanika who is in year 5 who was making a snowman as well.  We had a lot of fun there and had a snowball fight!!!!!!  In the evening I again went outside and brought lots of snow to my house and made a miniature snowman.

Orangutans

Orangutans are endangered because people are cutting down the trees that the Orangutans are living in, so they have nowhere to live and are dying.

Wild tiger

Tigers are going to be extinct.  There are only about 3200 tigers in the wild.  Tigers get hunted for their beautiful skin. They are also Asia's biggest cats.
Tigers are also Indias national animal.  The wild tiger numbers in the world are very low. Though India has reported a 30% increase in Tiger population.

Endangered animals - Tiger

The tiger is the national animal of India. The total tiger population is just around 2200 in India  but it is decreasing and facing extinction due to various reasons such as hunting and deforestation. Though it is considered as endangered, the government has made efforts to conserve reserves and protect the tigers by increasing security.

Animals which are going to be extinct

Baby Leatherback Turtle
Across the globe are lots of animals becoming extinct.
Although efforts have been made to get people to realise that they are killing animals and there are efforts to re-build endangered populations, there are still nearly fifty animals in the U.S. that are in big danger of becoming extinct because of our activities we do, like hunting and fishing.
The leatherback turtle is the largest of all the living turtles and is the fourth-heaviest modern reptile
It´s got oily flesh which you can not see on the picture

If you want another animal click HERE if you whant more information.

Balanced equations

On Monday we looked at balanced equations using the number scales.  Like this one:
 10 + 8 + 6 + 4 + 2  = 30 =  (5 x 2) + (4 x 2) + (3 x 2) + (2 x 2) + (1 x 2)

Can you say what the equation would be for any of these balances?
A.
B.
C.
You could post your equations in the comments below.

Winter Wonderland!

The snow has come after all and quite unusually school is closed today.
I tried to drive to school, but decided to turn back as it was like driving through a time warp!

So, how about we share some 'Snow Day' pictures?

To start us off, here are some of my garden.

Endangered animals

Take a look at these endangered animals around the world…
I'm sure you'll find a few you didn't know existed.
However, there are some very well known ones such as the tiger, the polar bear or the rhino, witch are equally endangered.

Here are some of the endangered species of Spain:
Lince Ibérico (Lynx pardinus)
Bearded Vulture (Gypaetus Barbadus)
Brown Bear (Ursus Arctos)
…we must save them!!

Creation Incantations

We have been inspired by our Power of Reading book 'Mouse Bird Snake Wolf'
by David Almond, to create some magical creation dances and spells.

We listened to the music and developed our dances first.

Then we composed and recorded the narration for our spells.

Here are our videos for you to enjoy.
