Making a carton for a litre of fruit juice #1

We're making tropical fruit juice this Friday. We also want to try designing and making a carton that could hold a litre of the juice.

Mr King who teaches technology in Secondary is going to help us. He has a laser cutter that will cut our cartons. Here it is, cutting a cube:

So, we did a little work to get us used to cuboids. What lengths would a cuboid of 24 cm be?
We came up with a number of answers:
We had a go at creating a net for one of these:
And we created some other nets for cuboids.

Now, it was time to think about our litre of juice. 1 litre is 1000 milliltres. Or you can say 1000 cm. We needed to multiply three numbers together to make a bit more than 1000

We used the calculator to try and find three numbers that would do that:
And chose the ones that we wanted for our carton.
To be continued...   #2 laser cutting our cuboiids

Painting Faces like Birds of Paradise

In Year 4 we each have our own bird of paradise. Here we are drawing each other's faces and changing them into ideas for a bird of paradise mask.

Who is the thief?

A Japanese Military ship sailing in Pacific Ocean. Japanese captain of the ship going to take a shower. He kept his diamond chain and Rolex watch in the table shelf and went for shower and returns in 10 mins.

China lodged a protest with Japan after its ships entered an area in the west Pacific Ocean and disrupted military exercises being conducted there.

Now listen carefully....

When he returns both chain and watch went missing

He called the crews in the ship. There were four of them.

1. Crew01. He the cook in the ship. Captain asked where were you last 10 mins. He answered "I was in the cold room to select the meat for the lunch."

2. Crew02. Captain repeats same question. He was the house keeping guy and he informed that he was at the top of the ship correcting the flag which was upside down.

3. Crew03: again same question. He was an engineer maintains the ship. He told that he was in generator room checking the generator.

4. Crew04. Same question repeats here also.   He was also a house keeping Crew. He told I was sleeping after the night shift.

With in 10 secs captain caught the thief. How and who is the thief?

Formula 1

During the holidays we went to Barcelona and there we saw the Formula 1, if you want some information about the circuit Cataluña click on the name you think the circuit is called. It was quite  noisy, despite scientists having made the engines more electric, so they make less noise. Here are
some pictures
Here is the circuit.

The Riddle

In the holidays my Dad told me a riddle, and now you have to figure it out!

Here's the Riddle:

So their is a little village, and in that village, it is against the law to cut your own hair. There are two
Hair dressers, one with scruffy hair, and one with beautiful hair. the one with scruffy hair is called Emerald, and the one with beautiful hair is Ruby.

If you lived in that village, would you go to Emerald, OR Ruby?

The answer is:
Emerald
Because: Ruby gave Emerald the scruffy hair, while Emerald gave a beautiful haircut to Ruby.

Amazing winter in Andorra!

In my holidays I went to Andorra to ski and have fun.
The first thing we did was going to ride the husky sledge, it was very fun because at a moment they go really fast but the majority of the time they don’t listen and behave bad but it was fun anyways!

Then I went to ski and that was also very fun, I skied with a very nice Chilean teacher called Gloria and she taught me how to ski very well so we took a ski lift for arriving to the blue track and it was very, very long so at the end we arrived to went into a hotel igloo which was amazing because inside there was a mini bar, a comfy bed and seats, so you can eat and the best thing was the sculptures made of snow and ice, I couldn’t take pictures because I didn’t go with my dad or with my mum but I was with Gloria and she didn’t have a camera neither but it was amazing.

Another day I found big creatures and also a wolf but I was not scared!

At the end we did the sledge and that was also very fun! Actually everything was fun in Andorra!

The Black Rhino

The black rhino is critically endangered.

In the 1900s the early European settlers in Africa killed 5 or 6 rhinos a day for sport or because they didn't like them.

In the 1960's it was noticed that the numbers were very low and so conservation groups helped to increase the numbers.  But then between 1970 and 1992 96% of Africas rhinos were killed by poachers for their horns.  Rhino horns can be sold for lots of money and some poor people in Africa need the horns for food and to live.

In 2010 one rhino was killed every day.

The Honey Bee

The reason that the Honey Bees are endangered, is because people put bug spray on plants, then poor Honey Bees drink the spray and die.

Honey Bees mean everything to us because they pollinate the flowers so plants can give food to us
and we can live. They are an essential part of the food chain.

Please stop using sprays!

My super cool Holidays!

In this holidays I have done super cool things. I went to Cerler in Huesca for skying and there was the best part. I skied but that was not the best thing. The best part was that I ride a sled of Huskies!!!. There were eight dogs pulling the sled. They were very nervous for running in snow and they were playing eating snow. One of the dogs while pulling  the sled she lie down and Jaime the owner stopped to tell it "come on Miberia" and suddenly she started to run again. Billy Joe was a young dog (only 1 year old) that wasn't running and Jaime decided to change it. (Click  Here if you would like know more about the Huskies). Jaime told me that the most intelligent dogs were in front of the others, its names are Lobo and Sena.
It has been my second year that I go there. Last year I went with Andres and Marcos but this year I have gone with my family but there we met Julia and her family.
The last day it started to snow and there was a lot of fog, it was amazing!!
