Well spotted you two. I hadn't noticed that! Your folding got me thinking though...what happens I wonder if you fold the square in half diagonally? Do you get a pattern in the shapes you fold then too?
You should suggest that after unfolding it they color in one of each size of square (say ones along a diagonal) and see what the pattern is.
